INTRODUCTION
Larry and Barry are an ENTREPRENEURIAL team which first appeared in Arthur Lipper's "Chairmain's Comments" column in VENTURE Magazine, and later in his book The Larry and Barry Guide to Venture Funding. Their full names are Lawrence Lion and Bernard Beaver. He uses their nicknames, rather their full names because he feels he knows them and understands their situation so very well, having been there so many times himself.

Larry has a flair for marketing and is both persuasive and courageous. Barry is the hardworking chief operating officer and inside partner. Larry deals with the customers and Barry with the suppliers and creditors. Larry negotiates the amount of credit lines and Barry has to deal with the repayments and minor details such as maturities, collateral and interest rates. Through the medium of Larry and Barry, Lipper both informs and amuses. Admittedly, he says "it is easier to amuse those who recognize themselves in the situation being portrayed than those who haven't yet experienced these initiations into entrepreneurship".

In his Guide, Lipper also attempts to show some of the stages in the evolution of a venture's funding from the perspective of both the entrepreneur and the investor. There is so much for young entrepreneurs to learn and so many times they find it necessary to reinvent the process. His Hope is that the Guide will provide some insights to assist those on whom so many will depend for employment and inspriration.

We are grateful to Mr. Lipper for sharing The Larry and Barry Guide to Venture Funding and his insights with the users of Access Business Online.
